Eternal Memorial Grave
ETERNAL MEMORIAL GRAVE
Visited by many worshippers, the communal eternal memorial grave is
a form of memorial that offers peace of mind to those without descendants to entrust with their care.

What is the Eternal Memorial Grave?
For those who find it difficult to visit a grave, Koukyouji records their names in the Eternal Memorial Register and conducts memorial services on their behalf five times a year, in perpetuity. This offers peace of mind even when no one remains to care for the grave in the future.
Unlike a typical ossuary, Koukyouji's eternal memorial grave is a grave-style facility where, in addition to entrusting the remains, visitors can still come to pay their respects in person.
Who Uses This Service
- Those who wish to continue visiting the grave after interment
- Those concerned that a family grave may eventually become unattended
- Those whose family grave is far away and difficult to visit
- Those who currently have a grave but fear it may become unattended in the future
- Those who have already entrusted remains elsewhere (such as in a home altar)
- Those who wish to entrust remains temporarily until they are ready to build a grave
People use this service for a variety of reasons: having no one to inherit the family grave, living far away and finding it difficult to visit, or being unable to care for their family's grave because they have married into another family and their memorial duties are centered elsewhere.
Important Notes
Applications may be declined in the following cases.
- Those who already have someone to inherit their grave (temporary entrustment may still be possible)
- Applications based solely on reasoning such as "it's cheaper than building a grave"
Usage
This service is also available to those concerned about the future inheritance and management of their grave, for themselves or their family. We are also happy to discuss relocating remains from an existing grave (改葬).
After interment, Koukyouji will continue to provide memorial services through its annual events.
